There are many unknown facts about the construction of the Pentagon Memorial. A “design competition” was helped to decide on the design for the memorial. The benches are arranged by the age of the victim, beginning with the three-year-old Dana Falkenberg, to the oldest, seventy-one- year-old John D. Yamincky. The $32 million memorial is protected by “United States Pentagon Police” (Facts About the Pentagon Memorial). With the load of effort put into this memorial, it has greatly affected peoples’ lives. The memorial was made to touch people’s hearts and it did just that.
Not only was the Memorial created for families, but for the nation as well. On October 11, “more than twenty-five thousand people”, including President Bush, attended the dedication service that was held for family members and employees from the Pentagon. The memorial is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week with the help of “support staff”. No photography is allowed on the “Pentagon Reservation”, except for inside the memorial (Facts About the Pentagon Memorial). The nation has shown its dedication to the victims of 9/11, and also built a special memorial to honor their memory.
